Here we go again...

So I forgot about posting for the last month, been too distracted by my last year of school to attempt to do so. But I'm here now so we might as well get started.

This year is going to be HARD, and not in a good way. This term specifically has 3 games that we have to make and 2 other final projects to complete in the short period of 2 months. One game we are building for a client, follow what our client would like and try to make something we can be proud of. The other two assignments may be combined into one game (we haven't decided yet) this would require us to have an innovative interface and an intelligent AI, but we should be able to finish these. Although there is so much work this semester....its actually my favorite so far; this is the first term where I have been able to be in a group with the people I wanted to, And it also involves the engine we get to use this semester that our TA for our AI and HCI classes created. This engine works perfectly, its easy to understand and manipulate to do whatever we want it to....Oh and its properly documented in the engine itself (unlike wildmagic in previous years)

But all in all it should be a good term, although hard we will definitely have a good time

Now here's the post text...

Summer was ok, 4 long months of work that other than building up my bank account so that I could have no money when school started...nothing really happened.

OK I lied, I did go to Ottawa for Canada day and that was a wonderful time where I gained a new best friend. And I did go to Fan-expo for the first time and the memories will last till I go next year. But the things I was looking to achieve didn't happen and this year I would like to make those things happen, so I can get out of this rut and make the best games money can buy...

Game Dev memes - yeah we have em

Well after a few years at uoit in the game development program, we've had a few well known sayings that have stuck in everyones head. here are just a few:

Why are the pixels so green?
Hello, I'm from UOIT and I have a question.
Look, the exam is only one page. Fascinating!
UOITEthernet
The Fish Bowl
Super Cow (Pronounced su-paa-co-ow)
It only needs to be 2 lines of code.
This is a wake-up call, guys.
DAMMIT, HOGUE!
"Hogue's a psychopath" - Ken Finney
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGUE!
The Bagel
Proberbly (C'mon guys, you know this one!)

Time flies when your making games...

Well a lot of time has passed, some further game development of our racing game has been done, as well as a second more turn based strategy game development on the side. not to mention having to make a 3 minute you-tube based off of ourselves... oh and there have been almost no game releases recently...just been busy with Minecraft.

Que the Minecraft review!

With our game we have been slowly improving the games playability and creating additional characters, but have yet to get into the main requirement of this semester... networking the game for multi-player abilities.

The other game (the strategy game, hopefully to become an rts in the summer) is of course still in its alpha stages, still building races, and maps and game-play, but we have gotten through most of the development of the game itself, before getting into mechanics or developing an engine (to be done in the sumer)

I'm hoping to be able to play some more games in the future...preferably newer games rather than the same ones Ive been playing since Christmas break.

so yeah...

Did ya miss me?

Well another semester of game Dev begins, and a strange one at that. With only 2 professors that we've had previously through this course this semester could be full of surprises. Hopefully things will go well, better than last semester of course, but we will see.

Courses this semester include:

  • Film-making
  • Animation & production
  • Game design & production
  • consumer behavior
  • Networking
All together new, which is good as we have had repetitive semesters for the past couple of years and it will be a nice change of pace.

Anyways thats enough school talk... as the first class has only just started. Lets get onto the good stuff.

Winter was OK, a lot of work after a long semester just replaced the stress that left when the semester ended. Luckily it wasn't all bad though, no Scott pilgrim for me but all together Christmas itself went rather well. Got a couple of games, a season of castle, some books and much needed resupply of clothes. Not to mention Christmas only taking the day itself instead of its usual 3 for my family, gave us more time to relax on our time off.

O yes...games

not much has changed over the holidays, maybe some cataclysm thrown in there with a couple of games I had yet to purchase for Xbox. Btw the answer is no, I did not get much school work done over the holidays.

Hopefully this quarter will be better for the gaming world, with a couple of big titles coming out, but not too many games to make me broke.

Well not much left to say now...so yeah
